Butterfly Counselling Services have many years of experience providing specialised counselling therapy for autistic and neurodiverse children, adolescents, young people, parents, families and adults.

At Butterfly Counselling, we understand student’s differences, helping students with autism to navigate life in a neurotypical society, in a way that keeps stress and anxiety under control. This can help to prevent long term mental health conditions.

There are several reasons why students with autism may find university life difficult, for example, social challenges including stress and anxiety in social situations. A difficulty with making friends may lead to a sense of isolation and loneliness. Struggling to manage emotions can lead to increased anxiety and depression.

Butterfly Counselling Services would like to link with universities to provide specialised support to students with mental health difficulties.

Our therapists are specialised in counselling autistic and neurodiverse adults, working with various issues, including:

  • All forms of anxiety and the symptoms linked to it, for example, nausea, sickness, avoiding situations, angry outbursts, struggling with focus and concentration, sleep disturbances, nightmares, sense of dread, body pains associated with anxiety
  • Depression and symptoms linked to it, for example, feelings of sadness, guilt, hopelessness, helplessness, irritability, low mood, lack of motivation
  • Homesickness
  • University difficulties – Transitions, social skills, challenging behaviours, peer difficulties, stress linked to academic work, the effects of bullying, exam stress
